Men from Bradford are the most likely in the
country to need Viagra
or similar drugs.
Official health data shows there were more
than 3.5 million prescriptions dispensed in
England in 2015 for medicines which combat
erectile dysfunction.
They include sildenafil, commonly sold under
the trade name Viagra .
The data includes repeat prescriptions.
Men covered by the Bradford City clinical
commissioning group (CCG) received 9,975 of
those prescriptions.
That works out as 0.23 prescriptions of
erectile dysfunction drugs for every male living
in the area.


The national average is 0.13 prescriptions per
male - meaning Bradford’s rate is nearly twice
as high.
Blackpool was second (0.22 prescriptions per
male), while South Lincolnshire was third
(0.21).
North Norfork (0.21), Northumberland (0.20),
Barnsley (0.20), Lincolnshire East
(0.20),Durham Dales (0.19), St Helens (0.19)
and Eastern Cheshire (0.19) completed the
top 10.



The lowest prescription rate in the country
was in East Surrey, with 6,800 prescriptions
for the 88,171-strong male population.
That works out as 0.08 prescriptions per
male. Richmond (0.08) and Kingston (0.08)
were next.
Other areas with very low prescribing rates
included Nottingham West, Redbridge,Bromley,
Hillingdon, Windsor, and South Reading.
Nationally, there were 3,565,461 prescriptions
written for erectile dysfunction drugs, costing
the NHS £47million.
