Suspected militant hits escravo pipeline

Reports say that the Escravos pipeline carrying
gas to various parts of the country has been
blown up by suspected militants,
causing upsets
in the supply of key energy resource for
industries.
The incident, #BENGIST Nigeria learnt, happened
late night Thursday. The pipeline is owned by
Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)
and connects the Escravos oil terminal to Warri
from where gas is distributed to different parts
of the country.
A spokesman for a local community group broke
the news to journalists on Friday. The NNPC is
yet to officially react on the incident
The country has recently been plagued by
attacks in the Niger Delta, with strikes on
pipelines and oil facilities majorly from a group
calling itself the Niger Delta Avengers.
Eric Omare, a spokesman for the Ijaw Youth
Council, said the attack occurred around the
village of Ogbe Ijoh, near Warri. Local resident
James Dadiowei said a “loud bang” at the NNPC
pipeline had thrown the community into panic
on Thursday night.
“The explosion occurred last night on the
pipeline belonging to NNPC [Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation],”
