Watching Donald Trump win the US presidential election was a “painful” experience, Michelle Obama said today.
Breaking her silence for the first time since the result, the First Lady spoke out against the “caustic” campaign by the Republican billionaire .
“This past election was challenging for me as a citizen to watch and experience. It was painful,” she told Oprah Winfrey in an hour-long
special .
But Mrs Obama said she and her husband were helping the Trump team as they prepared to take office in the New Year .
